Jack Gottlieb Memorial Concert

By: MBE

The Zamir Chorale was among the featured performers in a concert celebrating the music and memory of Jack Gottlieb at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, February 23 at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, 1 West 4th Street in Manhattan.

Gottlieb, who received the Foundation’s prestigious Hallel V’Zimrah Award in 2010, was a prolific composer of Jewish music, in addition to works in a variety of other genres.  Often influenced by the style of his mentor, Leonard Bernstein, Gottlieb’s music is innovative and challenging yet consistently respectful of its texts and accessible to listeners.

The Zamir Chorale, conducted by Matthew Lazar, performed four selections on the program.
